About Us
The Somalia National Meteorological Services (SNMS) is the official government institution mandated to observe, monitor, and provide weather, climate, and early warning services for the nation. Established to support socio-economic development and protect lives and property, SNMS plays a critical role in generating and disseminating accurate, timely, and user-focused meteorological and climate information. The Services operate a growing network of observation stations across Somalia and work closely with national institutions, regional organizations, and global partners to ensure the country’s active participation in the international meteorological community.
Through the delivery of forecasts, seasonal outlooks, and early warnings, SNMS supports decision-making in key sectors such as agriculture, water resources, aviation, fisheries, disaster risk reduction, and infrastructure planning. Guided by a commitment to innovation, scientific excellence, and collaboration, SNMS strives to strengthen resilience to weather- and climate-related hazards and to contribute to sustainable development and climate adaptation across Somalia.
